Base Ball.

Harvard played a very good game on Holmes field yesterday afternoon and defeated the Newark Atlantic League team by a score of seven to two. Frothingham was at second again, where he did good work, and Hallowell was in left field. He fielded poorly but batted well. Downer pitched a very effective game, and the seventh was the only inning in which the visitors succeeded in bunching their hits at all. Harvard hit the ball safely but five times, but of those two were home runs, and another a three-bagger. Newark's play was steady, and third baseman especially distinguished himself by some fine stops.

Newark was first at the bat. Gilbert and Johnson both made hits, but they were fielded out at second base. The last man fouled to Alward. Dean was hit by a pitched ball, and stole second; Linn hit a grounder to second, who fumbled badly, and Dean took third. Howland made a home run to left field and brought in Dean and Linn.

In the second inning Field hit safely to right, and was forced to second on Dooms' base on balls. Smith sacrificed and advanced each of the runners a base. Mansell got four balls, and the bases were full. Downer struck the next man out, and Sullivan ended the inning-Dean to Trafford. For Harvard, Hallowell mane a hit, but the next three men went out in order. Harvard did not get a man past second again till the seventh inning.

In the fifth for Newark, Hallowell muffed Mansell's fly and Mansell reached second. Childs hit to short, who, with Alward, caught Mansell between second and third. Childs mean-while reached second, took third on Sullivan's sacrifice, and scored on Gilbert's hit.

In the seventh Smith got his base on balls, and went to second on Mansell's sacrifice. Childs hit to left who fumbled. Sullivan hit safely to left, and Smith scored. Childs was out at third on Gilbert's grounder to Alward, and McDermott went out-Dean to Trafford.

For Harvard, Hallowell started in with a pretty three-bagger to right. Frothingham brought him in by a single to centre. Downer flied out, and Dean got his base on the ineffectual attempt to put Frothingham out at second on Dean's ground hit. Linn made a fine home run to right and brought everybody in. That ended the run-getting. In the last inning Downer struck the three men out in succession. The score:
