Harvard played a close game with Washington yesterday afternoon and defeated her in the ninth inning. Harvard fielded well but batted poorly. Downer pitched a fine game, but he was heavily hit at times.
Harvard scored three runs in the first inning on a base on balls, sacrifices by Linn and Trafford, a hit by Upton, two steals and a passed ball. For Washington, Bader and Bird made three-base hits, but only one man scored. In the third Harvard got another run on errors. She did not score again till the ninth.
Washington scored two in the fifth on a hit and a home run. In the eighth they tied the score on two errors by Alward, one by Frothingham, two steals and a base on balls.
In the ninth two bases on balls, Linn's sacrifice, a passed ball and Howland's hit gave Harvard two runs and the game, with only one man out.
