Foot-Ball.

The Harvard eleven played its second game of the season at Exeter yesterday afternoon, and defeated the Academy boys. Harvard had the kick-off and the lower end of the field. The ball was given to Harding, but he was sooned downed by one of Exeter's rushers. Butler and Piper followed with short runs and carried the ball within twenty-five yards of Exeter's line. Wood made a good try for a touchdown, but was well tackled by Cranston, the center rusher of the Exeter team. The ball was very close to the Exeter goal, and after a short run by Sears, Holden made the first touchdown for Harvard, but Saxe was unable to kick a goal from it. Time five minutes after the play began. Three minutes later Wood ran across the line again and secured another touchdown. This time a goal was kicked. Score, 10-0 in Harvard favor. The ball then went back to the center of the field, and after a series of fumbles by the Harvard backs, Holden gets the ball and makes the third touchdown. No goal. The Harvard backs continue to muff, and Exeter drives the Harvard team to the 25-yard line. After a series of rushes by Exeter, the ball comes within three feet of the Harvard, and it looks very much like a touchdown for Exeter, but on the fourth down the ball is given to Harvard and Saxe kicks it into the field. A few minutes later the game is delayed, as Morrison, Exeter's half-back and brother to Yale's half-back is slightly injured and Van Inwagan takes his place. Knowles, a substitute, goes to end rush. Holden and Harding make good runs. but the ball goes to Exeter on four downs. Exeter kicks the sphere and Wood secures it and brings it within forty yards of the Exeter line. Harding carries the ball over, securing the fourth touch-down. A goal was kicked. Wood made the next run after the ball was kicked off. Porter and Sears followed, but the latter was neatly tackled by Frazer in the side line. Saxe tries a good from the field, but Cranston stopped the ball. Harvard secures it and passes to Butler, who fumbles it badly. Harding tackles well and Harvard gains the ball again. It is given to Holden, who makes a touchdown goal. Scorce 2-0. The ball is kicked off again and Porter makes a bad fumble, but the rushers work the ball up the field and Harding makes another touchdown. No goal. The team indulge in some more fumbling, but secure the ball again, and Sears makes a touch-down two minutes after the last. No goal; but Harvard forces the Academy boys to make a safety. Farquhar makes a brilliant run, but Harvard secures the ball and Harding carries it over the line. A goal. Score 42-0 at end of three-quarters of an hour.

In the second half of the game Schroll take Markoe's place as right guard. Exeter kicks off and soon Holden breaks through their line and makes a touchdown at 4.14. Goal. G. Harding made a good run for Exeter, but Harvard kept pressing the opposing team back and in 3 minutes Harding makes another touchdown Goal. Score-54-0.

A run by Sears followed. Saxe fumbled and Van In wagan secures the ball. Holden takes the sphere along several yards, and Hunt gets the ball and Holden carries it to within 10 yards of Exeter's line. Butler carries it over, making the score 58-0. No goal. Porter makes a good run, but Kales throws him hard and Harvard loses the ball. Saxe secures it again from a kick by McClung and runs a few yards. Holden carries it well up to Exeter goal but loses the ball on the fonrth down. Exeter kicks the ball out and Porter makes a touchdown. No goal. Van Inwagan follows with a run of 40 yards. The Exeter fulback tries to kick, but Morse stops it. Harvard secures the ball and Harding carries the ball over the line for the last touchdown at 5.37. The last few minutes were spent by Exeter in wasting time.

For Exeter G. Harding and Cranston played a remarkably good game. McClung caught punts well and the whole team tackled low, which cannot be said of the Harvard team. The team has been coached by Mr. Dudley, Harvard '87 and they have done well under his instruction.

For Harvard Wood did good running and Harding tackled well but the backs fumbled so badly that it seemed to dlscourage the rushers.

Harvard.-Rushers, Holden, Piper, Markoe, Morse, Wood, Butler, Cumnock; quarter back, V. Harding; half backs, Saxe and Porter; back, Sears.
