The Rev. Edward Abbott of St. James Church, Cambridge, conducted the regular weekly meeting of the St. Paul's Society last evening in Grays 17.
He spoke on the efficacy of prayer and said, in effect: The "peace of God" is no empty phase, no imaginative effort to express shadowy unreality. There is a peace, sprung from God, which follows earnest supplication and the sharing of our burdens with Him.
Yet if the prayer be honest, it must include submission of our will to God's. When, after every prayer, we can sincerely say, "Thy will be done," and model our lives accordingly, then, no matter what our misfortunes and our desires, we can understand the true peace. Let no day pass without supplication, and every day will be blessed with peace.
