F. N. Watriss '92 yesterday began rowing with the 'varsity crew. Watriss was substitute on the 'varsity crew of '91 and during the spring of '93 and the following year he coached the '96 crew. He is now in his third year in the Law School. He rowed yesterday on the port side of the boat.
Freshman Crew. The first two freshman crews rowed about 500 strokes yesterday. The men did not seem to hold out well owing, probably, to the unusually hard work of the day before. The two new candidates have not progressed far enough in learning the stroke to make it possible to say anything with regard to their ability.
The make-up of the first crew was: Stroke, Rice; 7, Ames; 6, Woodward; 5, Aldrich; 4, Fuller; 3, Butler; 2, Scull; bow, Goodrich.
Junior Crew.Yesterday J. C. Fairchild and G. Derby joined the junior crew. C. Brewer of last year's crew is also expected out shortly. Watriss's training with the 'varsity crew has left the juniors without a coach, and no movement has as yet been made to secure his successor.
