HARD PRACTICE.

Several New Candidates Join the Football Squad.

The work of the football men yesterday morning was the last forenoon practice for the year. The backs spent most of the time punting against the wind. Kennedy L. S., formerly fullback on the Leland Stanford eleven came out for the first time. He showed the lack of practice, his punting being slow and unsteady. The work of the morning was of the usual elementary nature.

In the afternoon after the preliminary work two scrub elevens lined up. Kennedy, who was fullback on one, made one splendid punt and several good rushes, although Brown, the opposing fullback, punted more steadily, dropping a beautiful goal from the 30 yard line.

The first and second elevens next lined up as follows:

FIRST. SECOND.

Richardson, l.e., r.e., Moulton.

Woodward, l.t. r.t., Merriman.

Jaffray, l.g. r.g., J.N. Shaw.

Lloyd, c. c., Hoague.

Doucette, r.g., l.g., Sargent.

Lee, r.t. l.t., Swain.

Irwin-Martin, r.e. l.e., E. H. Davis.

Cochrane, q.b. q.b., Beale.

Wrightington, l.h.b. r.h.b., Warren.

Weld, r.h.b. l.h.b., Livermore.

Dunlop, f.b. f.b., Brown.

Cabot, f.b.

The playing was hard but very spirited throughout, being confined mostly to kicking by Brown, Wrightington and Cabot. Irwin-Martin and E. H. Davis tackled well.

Besides Merriman the only new man who came out in the afternoon was Littig L. S., who formerly played end on the Iowa State University eleven.
