The 'Varsity Crew.

The old saying that "It never rains unless it pours" comes to mind as one thinks of the difficulties that seem to fall in the way of the 'varsity crew. In the first part of the year when the hopes of all who have the interests of our rowing at heart were high, the coach question disappointed and discouraged all. Again and again when the persistent and untiring efforts of Coach Adams and Captain Perkins seemed to have mastered circumstances, some accident has cast a gloom over the brightening prospect. Captain Perkins is still unable to take his position in the boat, but will probably be back very soon. He watches the crew from the launch. At present the order in the boat is as follows: Stroke, Powers '92; 7, Kelton '93; 6, Vail '93; 5, Cummings '93; 4, Lynam, M. S.; 3, Rantoul '92; 2, Watriss '92; bow. Newell '94. Saturday substitute Jones '92 was tried in place of Cummings. Harry Keyes 88 is now coaching the crew and will stay with it until after the race. Adams will join the crew at New London after his examinations in the Law School. It is expected that the crew will go to New London Tuesday and the freshman crew Saturday.
