The Harvard Fencing Club has received an invitation from the New York Athletic Club to enter a team to compete for the Shaw Cup, offered for the team championship of the Amateur Fencers' League of America.

The method of judging is somewhat different from that used in the intercollegiate competition, and consists of a bout for an aggregate of five touches to which the judges may add three points or any portion thereof for excellence in attack, defence, or general good form.

The competition will take place the last week of this month at the New York Athletic Club's club-house. The chances for winning are not very great as the best fencers in New York will compete on the teams from the Fencers' Club and the New York Athletic Club.

In order to give the Harvard team practice, M. Rondelle, M. Jacques, and Mr. Cabot will fence an exhibition match at the club rooms on Tuesday evening, February 18, at 8 o'clock, against J. E. Hoffman, J. P. Parker, and A. G. Thacher. M. Rondelle is the club instructor, M. Jacques was assistant instructor at the Boston Fencing Club last year, and Mr. Cabot is an excellent amateur.

The club has also been invited to send a team of three to compete for the junior team championship, for nonmedal men, to be held at the New York Fencers' Club on April 4.

In the first week in May the intercollegiate match with Columbia and Annapolis will take place and, as the cadets are said to have a very strong team, it promises to be a very close match.
