Library for Department of Education.

Two circulars aiming at the creation of a department library for the Department of Education have been drawn up and will be distributed in about a week. The establishment of a library in this department marks a distinct and important step in its advance, and is the beginning of a wider scheme which was prepared some time ago by Professor Hanus, but which cannot mature, probably for some years. One of these circulars outlines the growth of the Educational Department at Harvard and the other contains an appeal from the committee which was formed for the collection of funds. Their circular briefly states that the department is prevented from doing its best work on account of the lack of such a library; speaks of the necessity of the best kind of training for men who will leave the University to hold positions of influence; and predicts the probability of the rapid growth of such a library if it were once founded. The Board of Overseers have appointed the following committee to have connection with the work: George B. Dorr '74, Richard C. Cabot '89, Richard H. Dana '74, Joseph Lee '83, Thomas W. Ward h. '43.

Such a library, if the scheme materializes, will probably be housed in the Rogers Building,--one section of which will be occupied by the text book library of over three thousand volumes, at present in Sever 15.
