A large audience was present at the meeting under the auspices of the St. Baul's Society in Sanders Theatre yesterday evening. Speeches were made by Dr. W. S. Rainsford, D.D., of New York and Mr. John R. Mott, secretary of the World's Student Christian Federation, upon the general topic: "Christian Manhood as exemplified by Prayer and Service."
M. T. Lightner '03, presided, and Bishop Lawrence opened the meeting with a prayer. Mr. Mott, the first speaker, emphasized chiefly the necessity and value of prayer. What the world needs today is not more men, but more man; and the highest Christian manhood cannot be developed without prayer.
Dr. Rainsford spoke upon the necessity of clear thought upon religious subjects. The message of university education spells one vast word--freedom. To exercise freedom man must gain knowledge, but he must gain far more--he must gain virtue.
