As previously arranged, the Crown Prince of Siam and his party were the guests of the University for the greater part of the day last Saturday. J. D. Greene '96, private secretary to President Eliot, acted as escort. The party reached the Yard shortly before noon, entering through the Johnston gate and driving immediately to University Hall where the Prince and his companions were formally welcomed to the University by President Eliot who was awaiting their arrival in the faculty room.
With President Eliot was Professor Charles R. Lanman of the Indo-Iranian department who, in a short address, spoke of the cordial relations which have existed for many years past between Siam and the United States and especially Harvard University. The Prince was given an opportunity to see a part of the Harvard Oriental collection, including a beautiful memorial edition of the Buddhist Bible presented to the University by the father the Prince, the present King, on the twenty-fifth anniversary of his accession to the throne.
After the ceremonies at University Hall the party made a tour of the grounds and at 1 o'clock drove to the Union, where luncheon was served. Besides the members of the oriental party there were present at the luncheon President Eliot, Dr. H. P. Walcott of the Corporation, James J. Storrow of the Board of Overseers, Dean Ames of the Law School, Dean Briggs of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Professor A. Lawrence Lowell, R. Derby '03, and A. Bigelow '03.
Immediately after luncheon the party drove to Soldiers Field and saw the Carlisle game from a reserved section in the south stand.
