The battery candidates began their work yesterday afternoon in the Cage at Soldiers Field under the direction of Capt. Reid and Coach Lewis. The work was very light, consisting simply of easy pitching practice. The idea is merely to get the men limbered up at first, and then by degrees to increase the severity and length of the practice as the squad advances in development. Several new candidates reported yesterday.
