CLUB ROWING.

Dates of Interclub Class Races.--Criticism of the Crews.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The dates for the interclass rowing races have been definitely arranged and will be as follows: A race between the second crews at the two clubs has been added to the original list of events and will probably come on Wednesday, April 9. On the preceding Monday, April 9, the preliminary interclub class races to pick the crews which will enter the finals will be held. The race for the class championship will then be rowed on Friday, the 11th, between the winners of the preliminary heats. Another race will be held on the same day between the crews which are defeated on Monday. Observation tugs will be provided again this year for the championship races on the 11th. The present grading among the crews is with few exceptions final, and most of the crews will enter their races with the same orders they are now using.

Improvement has been steady at both clubs during the past two weeks and the raggedness apparent at the beginning of the season is wearing off. At the Newell, the Seniors have shown the greatest advance and are doing the most satisfactory work. Their body-form is much better than it was. They have a harder catch and are more together. The Juniors are not doing as well as was expected. Their boat is unsteady and consequently they are still a trifle ragged in form. The Sophomores are making a good showing, but have the common fault of all the crews in having a slow catch. Their finish is also week and they rush their slides. The Law School crew is rowing as smoothly as usual and should become very formidable.

Of the Weld crews, the Seniors are the best. They are rowing well together and with more life than they have had formerly. Their principal trouble is that they do not finish strongly. The Juniors are not doing as well as they should. They fail to reach out far enough and hurry too much. The Sophomores have improved considerably and have plenty of life, but should get more power and a better finish to the stroke.

The orders at the Weld have been as follows:

Senior--Stroke, Bancroft; 7, Francis; 6, Shuebruk; 5, Colby; 4, Covel; 3, Morse; 2, Richardson; bow, Brooks.

The Newell crews have been rowing in the following order:

Third Freshman--Stroke, Coleman; 7, Conger; 6, Gale; 5, Waite; 4, Bigelow; 3, Lewis; 2, Souther; bow, Meier.

The Freshman crews have developed a great deal in the past few weeks, but still have a number of their earlier faults. The crews at the Newell have been gradep and have made fair progress but are not rowing as well as they should. The Weld crews are still unsettled in their positions but are somewhat better together than the corresponding crews at the Newell. In general, however, they are slow and clumsy and have little idea of finish in the boat. The second crew has life and dash, but is still too ragged. The orders have been as follows:
