There will be open practice on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 4 o'clock.
Only four of the men who have been playing regularly on the University eleven took part in the secret practice yesterday. The scrimmage, which lasted seventeen minutes, was slow and lifeless and practically featureless. Two touchdowns were scored by the University eleven. The first one was made by Meier after the ball had been carried nearly to the goal line on a series of short line-plunges, from the 44-yard line. Soon after the second kick-off, the second team fumbled and lost the ball on its own 26-yard line, and from there the University eleven carried the ball, mainly by formation plays to the 1-yard line, and Parkinson took it over for a touchdown. The rushes averaged only about two yards, and several times the first down was secured by a very narrow margin.
Sugden started in at center, but as he is not yet in good condition, he was replaced after a few minutes play by Carrick. Le Moyne, Shea, Coburn, Robinson, A. Marshall, Nesmith, Randall, Hurley, and Nichols did not play on account of slight injuries. Harrison, who has hitherto played at fullback, was tried yesterday at halfback on the first eleven.
The following graduate coaches were on the field: J. Dunlop '96, B. G. Waters '94, C. A. Barnard 3L., E. H. Greene '02, J. S. Lawrence '01, J. Lawrence '01, J. C. Fairchild '96, N. W. Cabot '98, E. Motley '02, G. A. Gray '94, J. W. Hallowell '01.
