THE WORK ON SOLDIERS FIELD.

Baseball Cage Being Put in Order for Winter Practice.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The work of cleaning out the baseball cage and putting it in condition for the winter practice has been commenced, and will be completed about the middle of February. Because the cage was used as a storehouse for cement during the construction of the Stadium, more repairs will be needed this year than usual. The floor, which was of finely sifted loam, has become very uneven from the rough use and a good deal of cement has been mixed with it, making a disagreeably dusty surface. It is now too late to have an entirely new surface spread, but the present one will be spaded up and rolled down into the best possible condition.

At the Stadium the work has been temporarily suspended, but a force of men will begin laying the remaining seats on the curve as soon as the weather moderates. The five hundred seats which were spread around the field have been removed to cover underneath the Stadium, ready to be placed in position.
