Plans for Debating Club

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Last Tuesday a meeting of the University Debating Council was held to discuss the plans for the ensuing year. It was decided to discontinue the publication of "Bothsides, a debating magazine, organized last year by the Council, since the management was unwilling to incur the expense and trouble of publishing the paper.

There will be the regular course of debating events during the year. The interclass debates will begin within the next few weeks, as soon as the Freshman Society is organized. The final interclass debate will be held sometime during the spring, at which the Pasteur medal will be awarded. The Freshman team is allowed one outside debate besides the class series. This will probably be held with Exeter during the spring. The Princeton debate will be held this fall, and that with Yale in the early part of May. All members of the University are eligible for these teams.

Owing to the growing interests of debating in the University a larger sum of money is needed to carry on the annual expenses. It is hoped that shortly the management may effect a mere substantial basis by means of a permanent fund. In the meantime it has been found necessary to organize a Ways and Means Committee to raise subscriptions throughout the University. A. C. Blagden '06 has been appointed chairman of the committee.
