LISTLESS FOOTBALL PRACTICE

Many Substitutes in Gerimmage.--Wretched Fumbling.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

University football practice yesterday afternoon was very listless, owing partly to the large number of substitutes in the scrimmage. Leary, Burr, Guild, Lock-wood and Nichols were all given a rest and, although all the other regular players were out, none of those who played for any length of time in the Pennsylvania game were in the line-up. Carr, Montgomery and Hanley were all out doing light work and Myers of the second, team, who was injured several weeks ago, was out again. Knowlton was again tried at end on the first eleven and O'Brien played on the second team. D. C. Campbell '02 has come to Cambridge to help in coaching and was out yesterday.

The scrimmage was an exhibition of some extremely poor football. The fumbling was wretched and the team showed little life, this being partly due to the fact that Sortwell went in at quarterback for the first time on the first eleven. In a 25-minute period two touchdowns were scored by the first eleven, but the play was very ragged and the second once took the ball on downs. Wendell made the longest run of the scrimmage, circling right end for 35 yards. Snyder played a good game and once threw Timmins for a loss of 13 yards.

The line-up: FIRST ELEVEN,  SECOND ELEVEN. Snyder, Hall, l.e.  r.e., Burnham, Pruyn, Bartels Speark l.t.  r.t., Meier, Inches Peirce, l.g.  r.g., Irving Parker, Cunniff, c.  c., Horkheimer, Barney McFadon, r.g.  l.g., Wead, Brown Fultz, r.t.  l.t., Gilmore, Harrison Knowlton, r.e.  l.e., Hurd, O'Brien Sortwell, q.b.  q.b., Timmins Leonard, l.h.b.  l.h.b. Harding Wendell, r.h.b.  l.h.b. Watts, Hicks Somes, f.b.  f.b., Fish, Jones
