Contagious Ward Completed.

The contagious ward of the Stillman Infirmary, which was provided for last year by a gift of $75,000 from Mr. James Stillman, is now completed. Some of the interior furnishings have already been installed, and the building will be ready for occupancy by March 1. This annex will enable the Infirmary to care for all cases of illness in the University and will obviate the necessity of sending infectious cases to the Cambidge City Hospital.

The new building, four stories in height, stands to the south-west of the Infirmary on lower ground, and is connected with it by a closed semicircular passageway of masonry with an open colonnade on top. It is 80 feet long by 40 feet wide, and in general design is like the main building, but with no ornamentation. Like the Innrmary, it is built of red and black bricks with white limestone trimmings.

Three of the floors are intended for patients and are in every way alike; the fourth contains accommodations for ten nurses. On each of the first three floors there is a main ward 30 by 34 feet, having windows on three sides, an open fireplace, and space for ten beds if necessary. There is also a private room for severe cases, an isolating room for doubtful cases, and a linen room, pantry, and bath-rooms. There is no inside connection between the floors, and they are reached only by an outside iron stairway. A fire escape is on the south side of the building.

On the south side of the connecting passageway, a laundry has been built for both buildings, and opening from the colonnade and against the side of the main building, a smoking room has also been constructed.
