At a dinner given last night to the basketball squad at the Hotel Westminster, Boston, Ralph Fletcher Griffiths '06 was elected captain for next year. Griffiths entered the Sophomore class last year, coming from Bucknell, where he played on the second team. He could not play on the University team last year on account of the one-year eligibility rule. This year he played right guard.
The prospects for a strong team next year are bright. Of the seven members of this year's team, only Henderson and Gallagher will graduate, and excellent material has been developed in both the second and Freshman squads. In arranging the schedule for next year an effort will be made to have the University re-enter the Intercollegiate League, composed of Yale, Princeton, Cornell, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania. This can be accomplished if the other five colleges will consent to a schedule on the tournament plan in place of the present one, which requires each team to play two games with every other member of the league. The latter arrangement prevented the University from entering the Intercollegiate League this year because it necessitated five over-night absences, and three is the number allowed by the Athletic Committee. All the games in Cambridge next season will be held in the evening, since the Gymnasium cannot be secured for any afternoon. The scrub series, which has proved successful this year, will be continued. Financially the past season has been very successful.
