Gales Ferry, June 8.--This afternoon for the first time, under almost perfect weather conditions the Yale University crew rowed downstream over the regular four-mile course finishing at the railroad bridge in the fast time of 20m., 40 2-5s. The crew was followed by Coach Kennedy and several substitutes in the launch. The boat spaced smoothly over the water, and the men seemed little tired by the long row. Owing to Daly's enforced absence, Ortmeyer was tried at two, and rowed extremely well.
The freshmen only accompanied the university crew over the firs mile and a half, the returning to their quarters. The university four-oar took a short untimed row in the morning.
