Wednesday, September 27.

9 A. M., C. Apollonio, J. W. Baker, J. K. Stone. football, and the men who reported at first are in much better condition than is usual at this time. The team begins the season severely handicapped by the loss of men for fullback and for end positions, and by a lack of quick-moving, quick-thinking tackles. There are plenty of men heavy enough for guards, but none with the tall, lithe build preferable for that position. It will also be necessary to develop a good punter, and considerable attention has been devoted to this branch of the game. Foster, Leonard and Hall have been doing very good work, and Brill has shown considerable improvement, although he is still far from being a first class punter. Hanley cannot always be relied upon and Lockwood is very erratic.

Up to this time the practice has been strictly elementary and has been marked by careful attention to details. Contrary to custom there was no drill in falling on the ball during the first week, and the dummies were not used until several days later. As a result there have been very few injuries. J. Reynolds, Jr., '07, and P. Boyer '08 were obliged to leave the squad owing to injuries in previous years. G. G. Hall '08 has a dislocated elbow, but will probably be able to play in a few days. J. D. Nichols '06 will not play this year owing to a strained shoulder. Although two elevens have been lined up for signal practice, there has been no scrimmage, and the plays have been executed very slowly and with great attention to form.

Head Coach Reid has been assisted by B. G. Waters '94, W. H. Lewis '95, E. Bowditch '03, R. P. Kernan '03, and A. Marshall L.'04.

The following eleven men were taken to the training table last Thursday: D. J. Hurley 1M., W. Peirce '07, K. P. Brill '08, B. H. Squires '06, B. Parker '08, F. H. White '06, J. Cunniff '07, D. P. Starr '08, J. W. Wendell '08, H. Foster, Jr., '07, and F. H. Nesmith '06. No additions have since been made to this squad.

Following is a list of men on the squad who have won their football "H": D. J. Hurley 1M., right halfback, B. Parker '08, left guard, F. H. White '06, left guard and centre, K. F. Brill '08, left tackle, D. P. Starr '08, quarterback, D. McFadon '06, substitute guard, J. Cunniff '07, substitute centre, L. H. Leary 2L., and J. M. Montgomery '06 ends. J. W. Wendell '08 and F. H. The practice yesterday morning was very light. In the afternoon the men had drill in falling on the ball, and as usual small squads tackled the dummies. The ends were given practice in running down the field under punts and the line men were tried at blocking and, breaking through, in which Brill received a slight injury to his knee.

Morning practice at 10.30 o'clock will be continued today and possibly tomorrow. This afternoon at 4 o'clock the first scrimmage of the season will be held.

The first game will be played with Williams Saturday on Soldiers Field
