1908 CONSTITUTION CHANGES

Meeting Next Week to Consider Abolition of Nominating Committee.

By G. G. Bacon.

Owing to the fact that the constitution adopted by the class of 1908 has proved itself unsatisfactory to some members of the class, a new constitution has been proposed. Following are the clauses of the old constitution and the proposed changes:

Present Constitution.

Section 3. "In other years [after the Freshman year] the president then in office shall call a meeting in the first week of November for the purpose of electing a nominating committee of ten. At this meeting nominations for the committee may be made to the number of twenty, and a ballot being then cast, the ten men receiving the highest number of votes shall constitute a committee."

Section 4. "The committee so elected shall nominate, within one week, at least two candidates for each office, in addition to the men at that time holding office."

Section 5. "There shall be no restriction on the nominating committee; it may nominate any member of the class it wishes."

Section 6. "Additional nominations may be made by petition of 50 members of the class."

Section 7. "The election of officers shall be by Australian ballot from 9 A. M. to 6 P. M. on the day appointed."

Proposed Changes.

Section 3. In the fall of the Junior year the president then in office shall call a meeting in the first week of November for the purpose of nominating the candidates for the three offices. At this meeting nominations may be made from the floor up to any number. A paper ballot shall then be cast, every member of the class choosing one candidate for each office in turn. The three men receiving the highest number of votes for each office shall be considered nominated.

Section 4. Additional nominations shall be made by petition of 50 members of the class not later than two days before the election.

Section 5. The election of these candidates shall take place as before. No resignation shall be permitted after a date one week before the election.

It is particularly requested that every member of the class read carefully the proposed changes. They will be voted on at a meeting of the class on Thursday, November 1.
