More Men Needed for 1909 Track

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

It has recently been decided that the Freshman track meet, scheduled against Brookline and Newton High Schools for May 12, shall be held with Brookline only. In scoring, five points will be awarded for first place, three for second, and one for third. Bronze medals will be given for first and second places. In the weight events 12-pound weights will be used in place of the 16-pound ones. The two-mile run will be omitted from the track events.

As there will be no work today for the University track team, Coach Lathrop and Mr. Quinn will devote the entire time to Freshmen, and especially to candidates for the broad jump and pole vault.

About 40 candidates for the Freshman team have been practicing regularly for several weeks past. This number, however, is far too small from which to choose a team of 20 or 30 men.

There is still an opportunity for men of ability to make the team. New candidates may report to Coach Lathrop any time today.
