Preparing for Dormitory Races

Rowing in preparation for the Dormitory races, to be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week, is progressing satisfactorily. The crews are improving steadily and the men are becoming more regular about reporting on time, and Coaches Brown and Stephenson profess themselves satisfied with the progress the crews are making. Stoughton, Mount Auburn Street and Claverly continue to be the most promising crews under the supervision of Coach Brown Stoughton is probably the most powerful crew on the river, and averages between 160 and 165 pounds. However, their rowing is rough and unfinished, and in a long race, would tell against them. Mount Auburn Street, on the other hand, rows in better form, and pulls a livelier stroke, but fails in point of power. The Claverly eight contains several experienced men and, though as a crew they are rather inclined to be slow and ponderous, the men row in fairly good form and with some power.

Of the eights under Coach Stephenson, Randolph is probably the best, as nearly all the men have had experience. Westmorly also represents considerable rowing experience, and is improving faster than almost any other crew. If they continue to develop they should row Randolph a very close race. Matthews is also showing up well.
