In the preliminary round of the intercollegiate golf tournament yesterday Harvard defeated Williams by the score of 8 matches to 1. The University team will play Yale, who defeated Princeton by the same score yesterday, in the final round at Brae-Burn Country Club this afternoon. Singles will be played in the morning and four-ball foursomes in the afternoon. The tournament for the individual championship will begin tomorrow and last through the rest of the week.
Yesterday's results were as follows:
Singles--Wilder (R.) defeated Jackson (W.), Briggs (H.) defeated Woodfin (W.), Morgan (H.) defeated Chambell (W.), Coe (H.) defeated Matless (W.), Lichtenheim (W.) defeated Clary (H.), Lanigan (H.) defeated Ahlstrom (W.).
Four-ball Foursomes--Wilder and Briggs (H.) defeated Jackson and Woodfin (W.), Morgan and Lanigan (H.) defeated Chambell and Ahlstrom (W.), Coe and Clary (H.) defeated Matless and Lichtenheim (W.).
Totals--Harvard, 8; Williams, 1.
