Team Third in Cross-Country Meet

Cornell easily won the intercollegiate cross-country run held at Princeton, N. J., on Saturday, with a score of 29. Syracuse was second with 87, and Harvard third with 89. The scores of the other teams were: Yale 90, Michigan 105, Pennsylvania 134, Columbia 188. Only four of the Princeton team finished, with the result that their score does not count, while the Technology team failed to register with the Intercollegiate Association and consequently were not eligible for the prizes. Had the latter team officially taken part in the race they would have finished second, and Harvard and Syracuse would have been tied for third place.

H. C. Young of Cornell won the individual championship, beating G. A. Dull of Michigan by a bare eight yards. His time was 34 minutes, 14 seconds, breaking the record made by G. Haskins of Pennsylvania last year, by 55 1-5 seconds. H. Jaques, Jr., '11 finished third in 34 minutes, 20 seconds, also beating last year's record. The pace set by Dull of Michigan was very fast and soon after the start the line of runners extended a quarter of a mile along the course. The leaders, however, kept well together until a steep hill was reached, two miles from the start. Here H. H. Howland of Technology took the lead, closely followed by Jaques and Young. This order was maintained for the first three miles. On the second lap Young took the lead, hard pushed by Dull. The pair were running shoulder to shoulder when they turned into the stretch at the finish. Young with greater reserve forged ahead, winning by a scant eight yards.
