BOTH ELEVENS SCORED ONCE

Fast Practice Between Substitutes and Second.--Regulars Laid Off.

The practice for the University Football team continued secret yesterday afternoon, and consisted of the usual preliminary drill and a scrimmage between the substitutes and the second team, in which both teams scored. All the men who played in the Brown game were given a lay-off except Ver Wiebe, who was in the scrimmage for a few minutes. The work was fast and full of life, due in part to the colder weather.

The preliminary drill for the backs was catching punts; and Coach Graves gave the linemen breaking through and blocking practice. The scrimmage lasted about twenty-five minutes. The substitutes scored first, after Robinson had blocked Page's punt on the second team's 15-yard line. Vogel recovered the ball and carried it over the line for a touchdown. The second team was then given the ball on the 25-yard line. Crocker got off a clever forward pass to Beard, who ran it out for twenty yards and Minot made the remaining distance in two hard plunges. After this the substitutes tried defensive and offensive work against the second team, and were good at stopping the second's attack. But the second team was a good on the defence and broke up most of its opponents' plays. Withington showed up especially well in the scrimmage. R. Brown and Houston, the ends, did good work in breaking up interference, but were slow in getting down the field on punts. Smith, Sprague and West were in the preliminary signal practice but did not play.

The teams lined up in the scrimmage as follows: SUBSTITUTES.  SECOND TEAM.
