By the will of Mrs. Amy R. Sheldon, widow of Frederick Sheldon '42, of New York and Newport, which was filed for probate Thursday afternoon in Newport, two gifts to the University are provided for, amounting in the aggregate to about $800,000. The first bequest, in cash and securities, is of $300,000 for the remodelling and enlarging of Gore Hall. If, however, the Corporation does not deem it advisable to use the money for that purpose, it may be devoted to other ends.

An amount of about $500,000 is bequeathed for the purpose of establishing a number of travelling scholarships. This bequest will be called the Frederick Sheldon Fund. These gifts to the University are from that part of Mrs. Sheldon's estate which came to her from her husband, and are, as she mentions in her will, to be considered as gifts from him.
