Although unheralded by a blast of trumpets the decision to allow Senior preference again in Holworthy, Hollis and Stoughton was really very important. Every year the question is thrashed out in the Corporation and every year more appeals and protests are necessary to convince these gentlemen of the advisability of permitting Seniors to have first call on these three dormitories. This winter it looked as if the class of 1909 was to be the last to enjoy this privilege, for the Corporation and Administrative Board were strongly opposed to the idea. Several members did not believe in class segregation of any sort, but apparently the chief reason for the opposition was a financial one. Seniors who would otherwise have spent their fourth year in their old Yard rooms moved to the Senior dormitories, necessitating the expenditure of several dollars in repairing their old rooms. The Student Council was appealed to and their representative drew up and presented to the authorities a statement of the advantages of the plan. It is impossible to estimate how much good this statement did, but at any rate it was announced a few days ago that Seniors would still be permitted to occupy these dormitories alone.
Aside from the general question of class segregation and the advisability of having all the classes live in separate dormitories, it is certain that the Senior class derives an immense amount of benefit and pleasure from rooming together in their last year; and we are glad to see that the Corporation is willing to undergo a certain amount of expense to allow them this privilege. Members of the Junior class will make no mistake in applying for rooms in the three dormitories for next year, as their predecessors in those buildings will assure them; and it is for them to show that the plan is so useful and successful that it would not be advisable to discontinue it.
