Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
New Haven, Conn., November 12, 1909.--The Yale cross-country team defeated the University team here this afternoon in the third annual run held between the two universities by a score of 15 to 52. Eight men ran on each team, the first five for each scoring the numerical value of their positions at the finish, and the team with the least score winning. W. F. Kaynor '11S. of Yale finished first, covering the six and three-quarters miles course in 37 minutes and 5 seconds, which is very good time.
The race started from the Yale athletic field and ran for one mile through fields, then for five miles over roads and a dirt causeway, and ended with an upgrade and one lap on the Yale field. As the men entered the fourth mile, P. R. Withington '12 was leading, followed by a group of six Yale men. Withington, however, collapsed before the end of the mile, and the race was entirely Yale's.
The first man of the Harvard team to finish was H. Y. Masten '10, who came in seventh. His time was 38 minutes 52 3-5 seconds, which was 1 minute and 47 3-5 seconds behind the winner. The order at the finish of those that scored was as follows: 1, W. F. Kaynor '11S., Y.; 2, R. K. Miles '10, Y.; 3, A. M. Haskell '10, Y.; 4, V. A. Mason '11, Y.; 5, W. McK. Dunn '11, Y.; 7, H. Y. Masten '10, H.; 9, E. L. Viets '10, H.; 11, R. H. Rowse '12, H.; 12, P. C. Heald '11, H.; 13, G. R. Harding '11, H. Cups were awarded to the winners of the first three places, and Yale was presented with a banner.
The University team will return to Cambridge tonight.
