Eighteen men reported in the Cage yesterday for the first work in baseball, these being the battery candidates for the University and Freshman teams. The work was short and of an elementary nature, consisting in slow pitching under the direction of Coach Pieper. This will continue for a short time until the men are well conditioned, when more attention can be given to speed and control.
The following reported as candidates for the University team: S. D. Bush '09, N. K. Hartford '09, R. G. McKay '11, H. E. Ohler '11, pitchers; K. M. Clark '11, W. M. Evarts '09, D. S. Finkelstein '11, L. S. Higgins '11, R. T. Lee '09, W. R. Ohler '10, catchers. The candidates for the Freshman team are: R. C. Babson, H. A. Baker, E. S. Blodgett, M. C. Bolton, S. S. Hanks, pitchers; J. M. Howe, J. B. Kelley, J. L. Weinberg, catchers.
