LONG SCRIMMAGE YESTERDAY

New Combination of Backs Tried, Corbett Scored Only Touchdown.

The practice for the University football squad yesterday afternoon consisted of the usual preliminary drill and a hard 30 minutes scrimmage with the second team. In this scrimmage the two divisions of the squad lined up against the second in succession. At the end of the first half, Team A was sent to the Locker Building and was replaced by Team B during the second half. The only score of the game was made for the University squad by Corbett during the first period, but toward the end of the scrimmage the second team came near scoring on Team B. In the first half the game was fairly fast but later the ball was given to the second team several times on the University team's 25-yard line.

Team A lined up with Potter, T. H. Frothingham, Wendell and Corbett in the backfield, and this combination worked well together. Potter made 20 yards on the kick-off, and from that time the University team gained consistently until the second's 15-yard line was reached. There the second obtained the ball on downs, but immediately lost it in the same manner. An attempt to score by the University team was stopped when Maguire recovered an unsuccessful forward pass on the second's 25-yard line. At this point the first team line seemed to weaken, allowing the opposing backs 25 yards in four-line plunges. A forward pass, on the next play, was recovered by Corbett, who ran it 45 yards for a touchdown.

In the second half Team B replaced Team A, but it was not until the latter part of the half that the backs on the University squad were able to make any consistent gain. Graustein's dodging and Page's close attempt at a field goal were the features.

H. C. Leslie is still out of the game with a bad knee and Wigglesworth is not yet well enough to be on the field. Tryon also did not get into the scrimmage yesterday on account of a slight injury. T. Frothingham was on the field that a spent most of the time kicking.

The two teams lined up as follows: UNIVERSITY TEAM  SECOND TEAM.
