Freshmen Play No-score Game

The Freshman football team played a tie game with Phillips Exeter Academy yesterday, neither side being able to score. The teams were very evenly matched, but the Freshmen excelled in every department of the game except in kicking, where they were clearly out-classed. Both teams were handicapped by the absence of a number of players. The Exeter line was strong on the defence, starting much quicker than their opponents. None of the forward passes tried were successful.

Exeter won the toss and received the kick-off. On the first play O'Brien made 25 yards, the longest gain made by Exeter all through the game. The Freshmen held for two downs and forced Fox to punt. From this time till the end of the period neither goal-line was threatened. At the end of the period Bettle intercepted a forward pass in the middle of the field. One play by Reynolds put the ball on the 27-yard line, where time was called. At the beginning of the next period rushes by Chatfield and Bettle made first down for the Freshmen on Exeter's 4-yard line. Three plays failed to gain and Fox punted out of danger.

Neither team came near scoring again until the end of the game, when C. Curtis recovered an onside kick on Exeter's 12-yard line. The teams were lining up in drop-kick formation when time was called.

Fox and Tousley excelled for Exeter. Gardiner and Chatfield played the best game for the Freshmen.
