Short Scrimmage Held Yesterday

The last secret practice of this week was held by the University football squad in the Stadium yesterday afternoon. Owing to the hot weather, the work was short, and the squad was dismissed at 5 o'clock. A 15-minute scrimmage with the second team followed the usual breaking through and dummy practice. Coach Haughton is still sick in bed, but is expected on the field in a few days. Long and Johnson are both out of the game for a short time, the former with a wrenched ankle and the latter with a sprained wrist.

In the scrimmage, the first team's line was very strong, and the second eleven was able to make first down but once. In addition, several kicks by the second team were blocked.

Withington received the kick-off and ran 30-yards before being downed. T. H. Frothingham made 15 yards through centre, and Campbell added 10 more around right end. After several line plays, Leslie went over for the first touchdown. The second team kicked off to Felton, who ran the ball to the 45-yard line. Potter immediately kicked, but the second team was unable to gain, and the University team recovered the ball by blocking Callendar's kick. A forward pass was intercepted, the University team thereby losing the ball. The second made first down by hard line plunging, but soon lost the ball on a fumble. Graustein put the ball on the second's 10-yard line, but the University team could not gain the required distance, and the second team regained the ball on its 1-yard line. Soon after this repulse, the scrimmage ended.

The teams lined up as follows: UNIVERSITY TEAM.  SECOND TEAM.
