ST. FRANCIS DEFEATED, 8 TO 2

University Team Superior in Every Department.--Team-work improved.

The University hockey team won its fifth game by defeating the St. Francis Xavier team of Canada by the score of 8 to 2 in a slow contest at the Boston Arena last night. The work of the University forwards, especially in protecting the defence, was much better than in any previous game. Whenever Huntington or Foster went up the ice with the puck, either Duncan or Hornblower took his place. These new defensive tactics saved Chadwick and Gardiner, and seemed to be a distinct improvement.

The University team scored four goals in each half and made six points before St. Francis scored at all. Duncan made the first goal on a pass from Hornblower within a minute of the beginning of the game. Seven minutes after Duncan scored the first goal he aided Foster in taking the puck the length of the rink for the second one. Scores by Hornblower and Seamans, the former from a scrimmage and the latter on a pass from Duncan, followed soon after.

In the second half St. Francis improved and there was no scoring till almost half the time had elapsed. Then Seamans, receiving a pass from Hornblower near the middle of the rink, skated the rest of the distance to the goal and scored. This was followed shortly after by a goal by Hornblower which came after a pass from Seamans.

MacLaughlin made St. Francis' first score from a scrimmage in front of the cage soon after Hornblower's score. The speed of the play increased after this and two goals, one by Seamans and the other by Sears for St. Francis, followed in quick succession. Hornblower made the last point of the game on a pass from Huntington just before time was called.
