YALE FOOTBALL WORK STARTS

Seventy-Five Candidates Report for Preliminary Training.

The Yale football squad has begun work in preparation for the 1912 season, with seventy-five candidates out for the team. This year the ends, tackles, and guards have been called out with the backs and centres, and two divisions have been formed of the squad. The work of the linemen will consist largely in running and floor work for conditioning the men, while the backs will receive some rudimentary training.

The members of the 1911 team who will leave college this year, have been enrolled on the coaching staff of the squad and will give a good deal of time to the work. Howe, Merritt, and Strout, the quarterbacks, will spend all their time in getting new men ready for this position, where Yale needs material. Captain Spalding said that the coaching staff for next fall has not yet been decided upon.
