COLLEGE TENNIS CHAMPIONS

W. M. Washburn '15 won the College tennis championship yesterday afternoon on Jarvis Field by defeating J. J. Armstrong '14 in the final set of their match by the score of 6-3. The other three sets were played on May 28 and the fourth set stood 6-6 when play was stopped because of the rain. In the doubles E. H. Whitney '14 and J. J. Armstrong '14 had little trouble in defeating E. R. Hastings, Jr., '14 and J. C. Devereux '14 for the College doubles championship after the first set. In this set, which was close, the Armstrong and Whitney were leading 4-1 when their opponents took a brace and won 6-4. After that the champions started and showed some good team-work.

Finals singles--W. M. Wahsburn '15 defeated J. J. Armstrong '14, 7-5, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Finals doubles--E. H. Whitney '14 and J. J. Armstrong '14 defeated E. R. Hastings, Jr. '14 and J. C. Devereux '14, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

Davis Cup Matches.

The three men chosen to represent America in the Davis Cup trials against the Australians are M. E. McLoughlin, H. H. Hackett, and R. N. Williams '16. There will be four singles matches, each singles player meeting the two on the rival team, and one double match, making five in all. Those scheduled today at New York are as follows: First singles match--M. E. McLoughlin, America, vs. Horace Rice, Australia, Second singles match--R. N. Williams '16, America, vs. Stanley N. Doust, Australia.
