Opera Prize to Yale Musicians

Announcement has been made that Professor Horatio Parker, Dean of the Yale Music School, and W. Brain Hooker, Yale '02, have won a $10,000 prize, offered for an American opera. It is entitled "Fairyland." The score was written by Professor Parker, and the libretto by William Brian Hooker, who collaborated with Professor Parker in the opera "Mona."

The prize was given by the Los Angeles Teacher's Association. Fifty-six operas were submitted by authors and musicians from all over the country, and they were judged by the National Federation of Musical Clubs. "Fairyland" will be produced July 1, next year, by the American Opera Association of Los Angeles. It is to be one of the productions in connection with a pageant, given by Los Angeles during the week of June 26. Professor Parker did most of the work on this opera during his sabbatical year in Europe.
