GLEE CLUBS TO BE DIVIDED

UNIVERSITY AND FRESHMAN SINGERS PUT ON COMPETITIVE BASIS.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

As a step toward placing college music on a competitive basis, similar to athletics, the University Glee Club was last night separated into two divisions. Each section will now continue as a complete club, having it own leader and schedule of concerts.

The present division is, of course, merely tentative, as there are many men now on each club who may eventually be shifted to the other. This step was taken in order that the club may be put on a competitive basis, and was necessary, in view of the large amount of material of high calibre available this year, in order to cut the club to a size which can be conveniently managed. Under this system it is expected that the club will improve in quality and will be better able to bring out the fine technicalities of the pieces to be sung.

As a direct development of the new Freshman dormitory system, the Freshman glee club has also been remodelled upon a competitive basis. Each of the three dormitories is to have its own club and its own leader this year. The greater part of the training will be under the supervision of Dr. A. T. Davison '06. These clubs will begin practice soon after the Christmas vacation, and some time in the spring an interdormitory contest will be held, the winning club to be presented with a cup.

This arrangement of having three Freshman clubs will be of inestimable value in training men for the University club, and will assist materially in the advancement of the standard of music in the University.

Concert Tickets on Sale.

Tickets for the joint concert of the Harvard and Yale Musical Clubs are still on sale at the Co-operative Branch for $1.50. The dual concert will be held in Woolsey Hall, New Haven, on November 20 at 8.15 o'clock, the evening before the football game.
