Those who witnessed the finals of the eighth annual Winter Carnival on the board track on Soldiers Field yesterday, afternoon were spectators of an unusually exciting battle, between 1917 and 1915. In the closest race in years, the Juniors won the interclass relay championship from the Freshmen by a scant foot. At the start, R. W. Stanley '17 gained a fair lead over J. B. Camp '15 aided by his opponent's stumble, but by consistent work the Juniors made up lost ground until J. C. Rock '15 finally passed J. W. Feeney '17. The Juniors held the lead, but it was greatly cut down by N. W. Wilcox '17, and in the final relay R. Tower '15 gave F. W. Capper '15 a lead of three yards on E. A. Teschner '17, which the Freshman captain all but overcame by a brilliant spurt, Capper winning by a foot in the fastest time of the meet, 5 minutes and 8 seconds, 1 minute and 6 seconds faster than last year's time. The teams were as follows:

1915.--J. B. Camp, F. W. Capper (captain), M. L. Greeley, H. G. MacLure, P. M. Rice, M. P. Robinson, J. C. Rock, H. St.J. Smith, E. P. Stone, R. Tower.

1917.--R. E. Ashley, G. H. Crocker, J. W. Feeney, M. C. Hobbs, G. Jones, W. W. Kenney, A. O. Phinney, R. W. Stanley, E. A. Teschner (captain), N. W. Wilcox.

The 7-lap race was won by R. D. Campbell '17, second A. C. Hawkes '14, third, A. R. Bancroft '17, in the fair time of 2 minutes, 11 seconds, 4 seconds faster than the time for last year's event.

This afternoon the pole-vault, the last event, will be held in the Cage.
