Veteran Crew Material Rounding Into Shape on Rowing Machines.--Freshman Strength Unknown.

The University crew squad has been working regularly on the machines at the Newell Boathouse for the past few weeks under the direction of Coaches Wray, Brown, and Bean, and Captain Q. Reynolds '14. Four of last year's University eight are in College this year, besides Captain Reynolds.

The preliminary work of all the men has been very satisfactory, although the usual outdoor running exercise has not been given on account of the severe weather. The present order of the first boat is as follows: Stroke, L. S. Chandler '14; 7, C. E. Schall '16; 6, J. W. Middendorf '16; 5, H. S. Middendorf '16; 4, B. Harwood '15; 3, Q. Reynolds '14; 2, W. T. Gardiner '14; bow, H. A. Murray '15.

About 60 men are also working for the Freshman crews, and although the material looks promising, no definite statement of prospects can be made until the men are tried in out-door work.
