TENNIS PROSPECTS ENCOURAGING

Only One Man Lost by Graduation, and Abundant Freshman Material.

Trials for the University tennis team will be held in about a month, and prospects for a successful season are bright. Last year the team won four out of six of its matches, losing to Princeton and Longwood. This year, however, the outlook is more promising, abundant material being offered for the formation of a strong team.

Of the men who won their insignia last year, only one, A. J. Lowrey '13, has graduated. Those who remain are Captain E. H. Whitney '14, W. M. Washburn '15, E. R. Hastings, Jr., '14, E. H. Woods '14, J. C. Devereux '14, and O. Williams '14. In addition to these all the members of the 1916 class team will be available, including Captain J. S. Pfaffmann, J. Wooldredge, C. C. Felton, H. D. Holmes, and A. F. Doty. Among the other promising candidates are L. Curtis '16 and T. J. D. Fuller '15.

In the intercollegiate meet next summer, the team will be greatly strengthened by R. N. Williams '16, who is ranked as the second best player in the United States, and W. M. Washburn '15, who, with J. J. Armstrong '14, won the doubles in the intercollegiate meet last fall. These three men, besides Captain Whitney, will make up half of this year's team:
