HAVERFORD MEETS DOWNFALL

SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP NOW LIES BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY AND PENN.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Haverford, Penn., April 13, 1914.--The University association football team defeated Haverford 2 to 1 in a closely contested, hard-fought game at Haverford this afternoon. During the first half the play was very even and no scoring was done, although several shots were made at both goals. About ten minutes after the second half started, Van Allen scored for Haverford from scrimmage. A little later Weld made a beautifully swungin goal from a corner-kick for Harvard. Kingman's recent injury which he received in practice, caused him much trouble towards the middle of the game, and so R. T. P. Storer '14 went in to take his place. When there were but five minutes more to play, J. C. Jennings '15 managed to score the winning goal, aided by the good team-work of the forwards. The line-up of the University team was the same as in the Pennsylvania game.

The University team is now tied with the University of Pennsylvania for first place in the Intercollegiate League, and her prospects for another championship team this year are very bright. Both of the above teams have 3 victories and one defeat to their credit, while Haverford, who is in third position, has won 3 games and lost 2.
