Professor R. T. Fisher '98 has been appointed by the Corporation overseer of the trees and shrubs in the college grounds. Professor Fisher's connection with this sort of work began immediately upon his graduation in 1898 when he was appointed collector from the United States Biological Survey at Washington and assigned to a small expedition to the Shasta region of California. After other positions in the West and under the government he returned to Harvard as instructor in forestry.
The first forestry work at Harvard was organized by Professor Fisher and for four years was carried on as one of the programs of the Lawrence Scientific School. In 1908 it became a strictly graduate institution, with an equipment which permitted of the most practical instruction and scientific work of the highest standard.
