EXONIANS TRIUMPH OVER 1917

In the closest and best played game of the season, the 1917 baseball team lost to the Exeter Academy nine Saturday afternoon by a 1 to 0 score. The contest was a pitcher's battle between Welles, of Exeter and Willcox, of the Freshmen. The former pitched the steadier game, striking out 12 men and giving no bases on balls. Each twirler allowed only four hits.

Exeter's winning run came in the ninth inning. Neal was safe on a fielder's choice, stole second while Enwright struck out and scored on an error.

The fielding features were many, Enwright at short-stop for Exeter making a remarkable stop and throw. Abbot and Emmons fielded exceptionally well for the Freshmen, while Harte at the bat secured two of 1917's four hits.
