our college papers conducting straw ballots. So far as can be ascertained, the Universities of Chicago, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Cornell, and Yale have conducted such ballots. At Pennsylvania, the voting was merely between Mr. Taft and Colonel Roosevelt, but at the other universities, Democratic candidates were also included in the voting.

At the seven universities, the order of preference, as shown by the total vote, is Roosevelt, Wilson, Taft, La Follette, and Debs. Roosevelt has a lead of 886 over Wilson, or over half as many votes as Wilson received. With the exception of Michigan and Yale, every college gave most of its votes to Roosevelt. Wilson was Michigan's favorite, and Taft was Yale's. Cornell contributed most heavily to Roosevelt's total, giving him 766 votes.

The results in the seven colleges follow: At University of Chicago: Roosevelt,  203 Wilson,  134 Taft,  70 La Follette,  68 At Yale: Taft,  470 Wilson,  211 At Pennsylvania: Roosevelt:  186 Taft,  127 At University of Illinois: Roosevelt,  519 La Follette,  197 Wilson,  180 Taft,  111 At Minnesota: Roosevelt,  258 La Follette,  175 Wilson,  159 At Cornell: Roosevelt,  766 Taft,  526 Wilson,  516 La Follette,  84 At Michigan: Wilson,  449 Roosevelt,  392 Debs,  192 Taft,  140 These totals give the following totals: Roosevelt,  2324 Wilson,  1649 Taft,  1444 La Follette,  524 Debs,  192
