FRESHMEN GIVEN CLOSE CALL

JORDAN'S FAILURE TO KICK GOAL LOST GAME FOR EXETER 21 TO 20.

The failure of Jordan of Exeter to kick a goal after a touchdown enabled the Freshman football team to defeat the Academy eleven 21 to 20 on Soldiers Field Saturday afternoon. This marked the first victory for a Freshman team over Exeter since 1912.

At the start of the game Exeter tried for a field goal, which failed. Shortly afterwards H. L. Whitney blocked a punt in the middle of the field and the ball was carried over for a touchdown by straight rushing. J. R. Litchfield made the second Freshman touchdown by also blocking a punt and falling on it after it had rolled over the goal line. F. S. Johnson scored the third on a quarterback run in the second half. R. G. Hadley kick all three goals.

Laurie scored Exeter's first touchdown in the first period and it was then that Jordan failed to kick the goal which gave the Freshmen their ultimate advantage. The last quarter opened with the score 21 to 6 in favor of 1920, but Exeter swept the Freshmen off their feet scoring twice in the ten minutes of the period. The last of these scores was made by Jordan who caught a punt and ran 50 yards through a broken field.

Captain Church's efficient punting featured the game.
