$50,000 GIFT FOR UNIVERSITY

DONATED FOR CARE OF THE YARD OR OTHER COLLEGE GROUNDS.

The University has received a gift of $50,000 from Mrs. Samuel Parkman Blake, the income to be used "for the care of the Yard or other grounds of the University." The gift is in memorial of her husband, Samuel Parkman Blake '55, and to her son, Robert Parkman Blake '94.

This new gift will create the only endowment here for the care of the grounds. During the past few years, under the direction of Professor R. T. Fisher '98, much has been done to restore the shade trees in the Yard and with shrubs and vines to beautify the college surroundings. The cost of this was met by gifts from individuals and graduate classes. Mrs. Blake's permanent fund will make it possible to continue this work and to supply the University buildings with an attractive setting.

Robert Parkman Blake was a prominent member of the class of 1894 and died on April 22, 1914. In college he both rowed on his class crew and played on his class football team for three years. After graduation he was engaged in business in Boston but found time to make hunting expeditions to Alaska, Europe and Canada. He continued much interested in rowing and was active in promoting the interest of this sport in the United States.
