Professor Copeland has been appointed by Governor McCall to the Board of Trustees of the Massachusetts State Library. He was nominated for this position on November 28 and his appointment was confirmed last Wednesday by Governor McCall's council. It is not expected that this new work will interfere with the conducting of Professor Copeland's courses at the University.
The term of office for a trustee on this board is three years, but Professor Copeland's present appointment lasts until June 1, 1918, when it may be renewed by the Governor with the consent of his council.
This will be Professor Copeland's second experience as a member of a library board of trustees, inasmuch as he served on the Union Library Committee from its inception until recently.
He has already received the official announcement of his appointment from Secretary of the Commonwealth A. P. Langtry and will take his oath of office in the near future. As soon as this ceremony has been performed he will begin his duties.
