TECH. SWIMMERS VICTORS IN TRIANGULAR MEET SATURDAY

University Weakened by Loss of Captain and Two Others Who Could Not Compete.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology swimmers won the Triangular Meet at the Boston Y. M. C. A. tank Saturday evening, scoring 40 points in the six events against 20 for the College of the City of New York and 13 for the University. Tech. lost only the first place in diving.

The outstanding feature was the victory of Arthur Wales, former Brookline High captain, who captured the plunge for Tech. In his first attempt he went 63 feet. William Jones, acting captain of C. C. N. Y., followed with 64 feet. Wales then plunged 67 feet for a new tank record.

The University did not have its full strength. Captain Hunt Wentworth '17, J. A. Machado '17 and W. C. Hubbard '19 were absent.

The summary:

200-yard relay race: Won by M. I. T. (Scranton, Gay, Untersee and Foster); second, Harvard (Leonard, Rogers, Shreve and Jackson); third C. C. N. Y. (Wade, Hodes, Baehr and Karsten). Time: 1m. 48 4-5s.

Fancy diving: Won by David Liebher C. C. N. Y.; second, Gordon Stewart, M. I. T.; third, M. Butler Blanchard, Harvard; fourth, Francis McAllister, M. I. T.

50-yard swim (individual times count): First heat won by William C. Foster M. I. T., 26s.; second, Ernest Baehr, C. C N. Y., 28 4-5s.; third, C. Upton Shreve Harvard, 29 3-5s. Second heat won by Charles Scranton, M. I. T., 26 3-5s.; second, Robert C. Jackson, Harvard, 28 3-5s.; third, Samuel Schenberg, C. C. N. Y. 31 3-5s.
